Bjørn Opsahl: Ask the Dust

Ask the Dust is Bjørn Opsahl’s most significant museum exhibition to date. The title conveys the poetic beauty that unfolds in the everyday details of Opsahl’s photographs. The book by the Italian-American author John Fante inspires the slightly ambiguous title. Opsahl’s photographs entice us visually while they reject our natural desire for clear meanings. The photographs touch upon the mysteries of life that lie hidden in the shadows and corners, half-disguised in the debris. Ask the Dust included over 30 photographs taken in Norway and in the US. As with his previous Deadscape series, an inexplicable sense of creepiness looms in the shadows and the dust of his beautiful, painterly compositions.
